What is Scealia?
An app that turns a photo, a video, an audio recording or a document into a dated, verifiable proof. It saves what the phone knows about the capture, computes a unique fingerprint of the file and records it on a public blockchain. You get a certificate and a technical proof file that anyone can verify.
What is a Scealia proof?
A file together with its proof record: the phone's date and time, the location, the device model and the results of its checks. The fingerprint of this record is recorded on the Polygon blockchain. The proof establishes that the file has not been modified since then, and that it existed no later than the time of the block that carries this fingerprint.
What does a proof record contain?
The SHA-256 fingerprint of the file; the date and time provided by the phone, and its time zone; the location (latitude, longitude, altitude, accuracy, heading); the phone's orientation and battery status, its brand, model and operating system; the network type; the app version; the results of the integrity checks; and a random value, which makes the fingerprint impossible to guess. The name given to the phone is never included.
Does Scealia replace a commissaire de justice (French judicial officer)?
No. A commissaire de justice is a public officer, and the law requires their involvement for certain official reports (constats). Scealia covers, at low cost and without a site visit, the everyday proofs for which such a report would be disproportionate. A Constat Scealia is neither a constat drawn up by a commissaire de justice nor an authentic instrument.
How is a Scealia proof different from an ordinary photo?
An ordinary photo can be retouched, cropped or generated, and its metadata can be changed without leaving a trace. A Scealia proof carries a fingerprint recorded on a public blockchain, at a time no one can change: the slightest modification of the file shows up on verification.
